D-IonizR FAQ's

General D-Ioniser Water Filtration Questions

What is the D-IonizR water filtration system?

The bigboi D-IonizR range is designed to remove minerals and impurities from your water to help prevent water spots, streaks, and staining during the wash and rinse process.

By filtering water down to ultra-low TDS or 0 PPM, depending on the model and conditions, the D-IonizR gives you a cleaner final rinse and helps reduce the need for towel drying.

Who should use a D-IonizR?

The D-IonizR is ideal for car detailers, enthusiasts, mobile detailers, boat owners, motorcycle owners, and anyone dealing with hard water.

If you want a spotless, streak-free finish without fighting mineral spots after every wash, the D-IonizR is built for that job.

Why is 0 PPM important for car washing?

0 PPM means the water has been stripped of the minerals and impurities that usually cause water spots, streaks, and staining.

When mineral-heavy water dries on paint, glass, wheels, or trims, it can leave deposits behind. Using deionised water for your final rinse helps prevent those deposits from forming, leaving a cleaner finish with less wiping.

Does the D-IonizR mean I do not need to dry my car?

The D-IonizR can dramatically reduce the need for towel drying because it removes the minerals that cause water spots.

For the best result, we still recommend using good washing technique, rinsing thoroughly, and pairing your D-IonizR with a bigboi BlowR dryer if you want to remove water from mirrors, badges, grilles, wheels, trims, and panel gaps without touching the paint.

How does the D-IonizR system work?

The D-IonizR range uses filtration to remove minerals and impurities from your water before it reaches the vehicle.

D-IonizR GO uses a single-stage deionising resin system. The larger D-IonizR MKII systems use a composite carbon filter to reduce hardness and impurities before the water passes through deionising resin, helping produce pure water for a spot-free rinse.

What resin is used in the D-IonizR?

The D-IonizR uses a high-quality mixed-bed resin designed for deionising applications and spot-free rinsing.

This type of resin is used to remove dissolved minerals from water, helping produce purified water suitable for vehicle washing, rinsing, and detailing.

What is a TDS meter, and why is it useful?

A TDS meter measures Total Dissolved Solids in your water.

It helps you monitor the water going into and coming out of your D-IonizR system, so you can see when the water is no longer being filtered to the target purity level. When the outgoing water is no longer reading correctly, it is time to replace the resin or cartridge.

How does the bypass valve work?

The built-in bypass valve lets you choose when water runs through the filtration system.

This is useful because you do not always need deionised water for the full wash. You can bypass the filters during pre-wash or general cleaning, then switch the filter system on for the final rinse. This helps extend cartridge life and reduce running costs.

Can I use deionised water for the full wash cycle?

Yes. You can use deionised water for the full wash cycle, and it may help improve foam quality and overall cleaning performance.

However, for best cartridge life, we recommend using filtered water mainly for the final rinse. This gives you the spot-free benefit while helping your filters last longer.

How do I maximise cartridge life?

To maximise cartridge life, use the bypass valve and only run water through the filters when you need deionised water, especially during the final rinse.

Filter life depends heavily on your incoming water quality, local water hardness, flow rate, and how often you use the system. Areas with high TDS or very hard water will use up resin faster.

When should I replace the resin or cartridge?

Replace the resin or cartridge when your TDS meter shows that the outgoing water is no longer at the target purity level.

For the MKII systems, this means replacing the cartridge when outgoing water is no longer reading 0 PPM. For D-IonizR GO, monitor the TDS pen and replace resin when the system is no longer producing the required low-TDS result.

Where can I buy replacement filters or resin?

Replacement filters, cartridges, and resin are available directly from bigboi.

Use genuine bigboi replacement filters and resin to maintain filtration performance and protect your system.

Can I use the D-IonizR in areas with extremely hard water?

Yes, but filter and resin life may be reduced in areas with very hard water or high TDS levels.

The harder your incoming water, the harder the resin has to work. If you live in a hard-water area, use the bypass valve and save filtered water for the final rinse to get the best life from your cartridges.

Can I use the D-IonizR with tank water?

No. We do not recommend using the D-IonizR with tank-fed water.

The system is designed to be used inline with a pressure washer or controlled-flow water source. Uncontrolled tank-fed water or inconsistent water flow may reduce performance and prevent the system from achieving the correct output purity.

Does the D-IonizR work with pressure washers?

Yes. The D-IonizR range is designed to work inline with pressure washers, but you need to choose the correct model for your flow rate.

Will the resin go bad if the system sits unused?

Yes, it can.

If the system sits unused for a long period, algae may form and foul the resin. If you are not going to use the system for 60 to 90 days, remove the resin cartridges, allow them to drip dry, and dry the inside of the housings before storage.

How do I winterise my D-IonizR?

Drain the water from the system and store it somewhere it will not freeze.

Do not leave water sitting inside the system in freezing conditions, as this can damage the housings, filters, fittings, and internal components.

Does the D-IonizR contain a button cell battery?

Some D-IonizR products include or use a button cell battery, usually for the TDS tester or meter.

Warning: Button cell batteries can be dangerous if swallowed. Keep batteries out of reach of children. If you think a battery has been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.
